Justin Hyatt

Network and Community Building

Justin Hyatt has worked for most of his professional life in the field of sustainable urban development and mobility. He attended IHS in 2015-16: MSc in Urban Management and Development, with a specialization in Urban Strategies and Planning. For his BA in History, he attended the American University in Bulgaria.

As a long-time resident of Budapest, Hungary, he was involved with NGOs, working on youth, urban and transport issues. There he launched initiatives such as Budapest Korzo, a ciclovia type campaign, with an emphasis on public space. He also prepared a guidebook on sustainable transportation for municipalities that was translated into several languages.

During his stint in Tunisia (2012-14), Justin coordinated a Polish-Tunisian project, supporting youth in local development. He also launched Critical Mass Sousse, as a part of the bicycle activism worldwide movement.

Justin believes strongly that community involvement, active citizenship and proactive engagement are essential components of the fabric of our societies and urban communal life.

“As Community Builder and Networker of the IHS AI Board, I am thrilled to be able to help spur interaction and participation of members of the alumni network. We want to continue fostering crucial discussions as part of the urban agenda, bringing creativity and responsibility to the fore.”
